Choosing Surfboards For Beginners

Soft Top Surfboards for Beginners

It’s normal to feel a little lost when you begin a new sport or find a new hobby, especially when looking for new equipment. But once you have had a taste of a new sport that you love, it can be difficult not to dive straight in and buy the first things you find in order to get back out and try it again.

When investing in equipment for a sport like surfing, it is important to make sure you choose the right board and suit for you. They can often be expensive pieces of equipment and could be rendered useless if purchased in the wrong sizes. When choosing a new surfboard, make sure you do your research into the best models for you, before making a hasty purchase.

If you’re new to surfing it is likely you have used a soft top surfboard during any lessons or surfing practice you have already done. Soft top boards, unlike hard top boards which are finished with fibreglass, have a soft finish and are much more buoyant. The soft top board has a finish much like a body or boogie board, and the soft foam helps those new to the sport catch waves more easily. Soft boards require a little less maintenance.

They don’t require wax like those with a fibreglass finish, and they come in all shapes and sizes for any age range. If you’re struggling to decide which board or suit is right for you, contact us for further information! You can reach out to us on social media, give us a call or send us an email.
