THE BENEFITS OF A SOFTBOARD SURFBOARD

Foam surfboards, or soft boards as they are also called, were originally used by surf schools to teach people how to surf with a safe board that would not harm the student if they fall off. The foam surfboard has become a great family surfboard to either take to the beach in the summertime, or for more experienced surfers that still want to have fun and catch surf when the waves are smaller. A foam surfboard has become very affordable over the past few years due to more people wanting to get in the water and have fun. The main benefit of it's construction is that it has really good volume in the foam surfboard which means it will catch waves with ease. The soft top will also remain stable, giving you time to get to your feet and enjoy your surfing. It makes the learning curve in riding a wave so much shorter than if you had bought a traditional mini mal board. Saying that, a mini mal does allow you to progress further in the long run as it will turn better than a soft board board. So you can choose either route to start you out in the fine sport of surfing.

SOFT SURFBOARDS FOR ALL THE FAMILY

Soft Board surfboards perform in the same way as standard, heavier boards but they’re just a little easier and lighter to manoeuvre. The soft foam construction offers really good volume in the board, making it a leisurely and stable ride. Some are also available with a traction pad for even more control on the soft top. With a smoother ride and a reduced risk of losing your footing, you’re on to a winner with foam board surfboards. The best foam surfboards are popular with surf schools and are regularly recommended to beginner surfers because the deck is more forgiving. The softer material offers ample buoyancy whilst protecting against injuries when you take a fall. Produced as an alternative option to the mini mal beginners’ boards and a great tool to encourage newcomers to the sport, foam surfboards are super durable. Unlike wetsuits and other kits, soft board surfboards can definitely be shared between people as they have a little more ‘one-size-fits-all’ design – at least until you start carving through the surf. Hybrid soft boards are a great way to start progressing because they offer superior control, so you can start tightening your turns and really owning the waves. Soft fin surfboards provide a little more reprieve to beginners, avoiding damage when you run over sand or something hard.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY SOFTBOARD BOARDS

Soft top surfboards are hardwearing, lightweight and a fantastic beginner option. They’re a popular ‘part-timer’ board because they are often cheaper than the regular price of a mini mal or alternative boards originally designed to get you started. You can share them between a group of friends or a family at different skill levels. Softboards like these were intentionally designed for stability, with a wide, long surface which gives surfers a better opportunity to stand and take control. Different materials for foam board surfboards mean that progression is quick. Epoxy resin underlays and wooden stringers will make your foam board feel like a harder, more rigid deck with more sensitive reactions than the standard beginner board. Foam boards are all about bringing a smile to your face when catching waves, for everyone from little rippers to first-time adults. This applies to maintenance as well; no waxing is required, unlike on a hardboard; you can just pick a foam surfboard and head down to the waves. Awesome to be used in all conditions, they’re also a great option for those who don’t want to pay a huge price because they don’t get much time at the beach but want to make the most out of the surf time they do have!
