So what is the Rebellion Project? Take a few minutes to find out.
LET THE REBELLION BEGIN…
The European market as Australia before us is being flooded with imported Surfboards from the Far East. UK and European Surfboard factories struggle to maintain business and compete with these low wholesale prices and margins that can be offered to retailers.
The majority of the boards coming from the Far East that are bought in the UK are Mini Mals. These boards are cheap to buy for retailers and cheap to buy for consumers. This in essence this is fantastic. So why the Rebellion?
Firstly let’s look at performance. These boards (however cheap) are produced with standard shapes and design; they take no consideration to the end user. How are you meant to improve if the main equipment you use actually prevents you from getting better?
The rebellion project is the brainchild of UK shaper and owner of Fourth surfboards Luke Hart. Working with the top surfers and shapers in the UK on what makes a board perfect to learn and improve on Luke, along with UK surfing legend Lee Bartlett has designed a beginner shortboard and ultimate minimal that takes elements from many of his pro boards, to create a board that can take you from beginner up wards.
But this isn’t the only benefit to staying clear of the production line boards.
There are environmental issues that need to be addressed. These imported boards are made with some of the harshest chemicals around. They are produced in huge energy guzzling factories; they are then flown or shipped in massive containers across the globe, loaded into trucks and sent over the country. The carbon footprint is through the roof; these boards are in essence destroying and adding to destruction and pollution of our playground, the ocean.
The Rebellion Project, aims to cut down the carbon footprint to as close to zero as possible. We have sourced as many products from Cornwall as possible. The blank come from Home Blown in Cornwall and are environmentally friendly as they are water blown foam blanks unlike chemically blown far eastern blanks, the fibre glass is un coated, the paint is water based, The finish is sanded rather than chemical lacquer finish, and all fins are 100% recycled. The factory is based in Cornwall, employing local craftsman. The whole start to finish process is majorly improved with the environment in mind. We aren’t going to start hugging tress but doing our bit for the planet and the ocean is a no brainer.
But GREEN is expensive we hear you say. Not anymore. This is where we show the establishment what we can do. We will be keeping wholesale to our lowest possible margin. Meaning, retailers cannot only buy these ethically produced boards in less bulk (as little as 10 at a time!!) they are also cheaper than the imported models. They can then pass on that saving to you the customer, Cha Ching!! This is the Rebellion; this is where we as a community can make a difference. Choose these boards and not only is the product superior, the price is better and you leave with a new stick under your arm feeling safe in the knowledge you made a difference.
£1 OF EVERY SALE WILL ALSO GO TO SURFERS AGAINST SEWAGE TO HELP THEIR PLIGHT IN MAKING THE OCEAN A SAFER CLEANER PLACE. PLEASE ALSO DONATE IF YOU WANT TO HELP THE CAUSE!
