Surfing wetsuits have come on so much in the last six years with the advent of super stretch material and thermal linings. You don't need to be cold in the water anymore. Some of the best sellers have been the O'Neill Epic wetsuit due to its fantastic price, stretch, and warmth. O'Neill has also produced one of the best-selling wetsuits of all time in the Psycho 3 range, a top-end top-end wetsuit with all the best technology and features to make it warm and super flexible. Rip Curl is also right up there in terms of producing exceptional products, such as the Rip Curl Flash Bomb surfing wetsuit winner of the wetsuit of the year. Summer Surfing Wetsuits

This will depend on a few factors, such as how often you plan to be in the water. If you are a fair-weather surfer that generally goes in the summer, then an entry-level 3mm wetsuit will be more than sufficient so look at something like the O'Neill Reactor 3mm full wetsuit. If you are a more avid surfer, then a 3mm full wetsuit is great for the summer months and depending on a budget above £100, you will get a perfect flexible wetsuit. It is the case that the more you spend, the more flexible the wetsuit will become and the warmer it will be too. This means you can spend longer in the water without getting tired and cold. All 3mm surfing wetsuits are perfect for UK waters, and it is even worth considering a 4mm suit as you can wear it in autumn and spring, which means you can come out of the winter suit sooner. If you are lucky enough to live or surf in warm waters of 20°C plus, then a shortie may be the better option as you get more freedom of movement, and they are so easy to get on and off.

Winter Surfing Wetsuits

There are indeed two rules of thought for winter surfing wetsuits, so if you are going to use the suit occasionally, look at the O'Neill Epic or the Rip Curl Omega, as these are great entry-level wetsuits that will keep you warm and flexible. However, when winter arrives and the water gets cold in the UK and Europe, it is worth spending as much as you can afford to get the warmest possible suit. We suggest investing in a 5mm winter wetsuit, at least when the cold sets in and the temperatures plummet.

The more you spend, the more technical the wetsuit will become, including some toasty thermal layers and clever warmth properties. It is also the case that the more you spend, the better the neoprene they use. This means that the suit is more flexible and will retain your body heat a lot better. Brands to consider are O'Neill, Rip Curl, Xcel & Billabong. You should also look into C Skins surfing wetsuits as they are a UK company that does appreciate the value of having a warm suit.
