WHY WEAR COLD WATER SWIMMING SOCKS?

Cold water swim socks are essential when swimming in open or cold waters, such as the sea or lakes during the colder winter and autumn months. They provide additional protection against the elements and extra insulation to keep you comfortable during those long swims, especially when paired with neoprene swim gloves.

WHICH WETSUIT SOCKS ARE BEST FOR ME?

Wetsuit socks for swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, and even surfing provide a brilliant range of benefits like warmth, comfort, and protection. If you’re swimming during the winter, Zone 3 swim socks in 5mm are ideal, but if you’re swimming during spring, Orca Openwater Swim Socks in 2.5mm will keep you snug while still providing a good level of flexibility.

On the other hand, if you’re thinking of wearing wetsuit socks underneath your traditional wetsuit boots, aim for something between 1.5-3mm so they still fit beneath your booties without feeling too restricted. Or, we recommend choosing a thick pair of wetsuit boots such as Rip Curl’s Flash Bomb in 7mm.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WETSUIT SOCKS AND BOOTS

Open water swimming socks are typically thinner than wetsuit boots and are mostly used for activities like cold water swimming and kayaking. Neoprene socks are designed for minimal drag and are more flexible for freedom of kick, contributing to seamless movement through the water, making them perfect for swimming.

Wetsuit boots on the other hand are designed to keep you warm during activities like surfing and kite surfing. They offer protection for when you’re walking across sharp reefs to get to a point break, and keep your feet protected from the harsh cold water. They’re more chunky and heavier than wetsuit socks and are ideal for more extreme watersports.
