Hoods come in various types including caps that cover the main part of your head and ears and usually have a strap that comes under your chin. These give you a good amount of head movement so you don't feel to restricted. In terms of thickness a cap will often come in 2mm and 3mm neoprene and the most popular being the 3mm. A full wetsuit hood is the next option which covers the head and neck and often has a piece of material that tucks into the wetsuit. Surfers tend to want this movement more and the full wetsuit hood can feel a little awkward in the water. Saying that they are still very popular and tends to come down to personal preference.

In recent years with the popularity of SUP and people still wanting to take the sport into the winter, a simple beanie in the 2mm version has also become very popular. This just covers the head and ears with no strap under the chin.
